Addis Ababa - Moussa Faki Mahamat, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), has appointed a high-level panel to address the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the panel comprises three distinguished African figures. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, the AU High Representative for Silencing the Guns, has been appointed as the chair of the panel. Joining him are Speciosa Wandira-Kazibwe, former Vice President of Uganda, and Ambassador Francisco Madeira, former Special Representative of the Chairperson of the Commission to Somalia and Head of AMISOM/ATMIS.
The appointments are effective immediately, following the conclusion of the AU Peace and Security Council, as outlined in the statement. This move signifies the AU's ongoing commitment to resolving conflicts within the continent, with a specific focus on the situation in Sudan.
