Anti-Gang Unit Detains Man for Drug Possession and Attempted Bribery in Gauteng

GAUTENG – A routine patrol by the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) at Watervaal Flats led to the arrest of a man found with illegal drugs and who subsequently attempted to bribe the officers for his release.

According to South African Police Service, AGU members observed a suspicious red Hyundai i10 departing Watervaal Flats. The vehicle was stopped on Main Road, where the sole occupant, a male driver, consented to a search. Initially, no illicit items were found in the vehicle, but a personal search of the driver uncovered nine ziplock bags containing crystal methamphetamine. When confronted, the driver offered money to the AGU officers in exchange for letting him go.

Recognizing the severity of both the drug possession and the attempted bribery, the AGU members arrested the suspect. He was taken to the nearest police station, where he remains detained. He is scheduled to appear in court later this week to face charges related to both offenses. Brigadier Maphoto praised the integrity and professionalism of the AGU members, highlighting their commitment to upholding law and order.
