Bafana Bafana and Botswana End in Goalless Stalemate at COSAFA Cup

Gqeberha, Eastern Cape — Bafana Bafana and Botswana played to a 0-0 draw in their latest match at the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup held at Isaac Wolfson Stadium on Saturday. This result follows a similar 1-1 draw against Mozambique, placing added pressure on the South African team in the group stages.

According to South African Government News Agency, despite creating multiple opportunities, Coach Helman Mkhalele’s team struggled to capitalize on their chances against a resilient Botswanan defense. Mkhalele expressed disappointment in the team’s execution, particularly in the attacking third, noting a lack of confidence and aggression as key factors in their inability to secure a win. "We controlled the game for long periods, but failed to convert possession into scoring opportunities, particularly in crucial moments of the match," he stated.

Botswana's coach, Didier da Rosa, praised his team's discipline and execution of their game plan, which focused on maintaining a strong defense and not conceding goals. This approach has resulted in two consecutive draws for Botswana, including a previous 0-0 match against Eswatini.

As the COSAFA Cup continues, Bafana Bafana must prepare for their next challenge against Eswatini, scheduled for 3 PM on Tuesday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. This upcoming match is crucial for Mkhalele's squad as they seek to advance beyond the group stage.
