Cape Verde: Cabeolica to Expand Wind Energy Capacity on Santiago

Praia — Cabeolica in Cape Verde is set to enhance its wind energy capacity from 9 to 22 MW on Santiago Island, incorporating battery storage solutions. This expansion will increase renewable energy's contribution to the nation's energy mix to 30% by 2025, while achieving annual savings of 1 million pounds.

According to Africa News Agency, the enhancement aims to reduce Cape Verde's dependence on imported fossil fuels. Currently, the country obtains 80% of its electricity from thermal power plants. With a total installed capacity of 400 MW, including 17% from Cabeolica, Cape Verde pursues a transition to cleaner energy sources.
