ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia - Ethiopia is actively extending various infrastructure supports, including renewable energy and water supply, to its neighboring countries. This initiative is part of the country's commitment to fostering shared development and mutual benefits in the region.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Habtamu Itefa, Ethiopia's efforts are driven by a genuine desire for regional development and cooperation. This sentiment was expressed during a visit by Ethiopian and Djiboutian delegations to the Ethio-Djibouti transboundary potable water project in Adigala, Somali region. The delegation, led by Minister Habtamu Itefa and Director General of the Djibouti Consulate in Dire Dawa, Ambassador Mussa Haji Jemal, observed the project's activities.
Minister Itefa emphasized Ethiopia's commitment to ensuring shared development and mutual benefit as the main intention behind these initiatives. The country is determined to contribute to the mutual development of communities in neighboring nations, sharing its resources despite its own challenges.
The minister highlighted Ethiopia's endeavors in supplying potable water and renewable energy sources to countries in the region. He pointed out that although Ethiopia is geographically close to the sea, its landlocked nature significantly impacts its development aspirations. He stressed the need for support in Ethiopia's efforts to meet its demands, as it works towards aiding its neighbors.
Ethiopia's long-term goal is to realize shared development with its neighboring countries. In this context, the recent Memorandum of Understanding signed with Somaliland is also a part of this broader aspiration.
Minister Itefa urged regional countries to recognize Ethiopia's quest for access to sea and alternative ports. He highlighted the importance of water for regional integration, noting how neighboring countries benefit from the natural rivers flowing from Ethiopia.
