Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - The Global Black History, Heritage and Education Centre (GBHHEC) is set to inaugurate its headquarters in Addis Ababa in the first week of December, marking a significant milestone in Ethiopia's diplomatic achievements and its role in Pan-African movements.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, in his biweekly press briefing, Meles Alem, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted that the decision of GBHHEC to establish its headquarters in Addis Ababa is a testament to Ethiopia's considerable diplomatic efforts. He emphasized Ethiopia's historical significance as the cradle of humankind and its foundational role in Pan-Africanism. Ethiopia's membership in various international organizations, including the United Nations and the Organization of African Unity (now African Union), played a crucial role in GBHHEC's choice of Addis Ababa for its headquarters.
Alem underscored that the establishment of GBHHEC's headquarters in Addis Ababa is not only a diplomatic victory but also a recognition of Ethiopia's vibrant history in Pan-African movements. The move is expected to bolster Ethiopia's tourism sector, further elevating its global standing.
Moreover, GBHHEC plans to construct a state-of-the-art museum in Addis Ababa, featuring digital technologies to showcase the history and heritage of black Africans. The museum aims to preserve and document Africa's rich history and heritage, including manuscripts, artifacts, ruins, achievements, inventions, and ideologies.
During a 10-day working visit to Ethiopia last April, a delegation from the Global Black History, Heritage, and Education Center met with high-level government officials, laying the groundwork for this significant development.
Ambassador Meles Alem highlighted the social and economic importance of the center, stating that the inauguration will be attended by representatives of the world's black communities, intellectuals, and institutions. The center is expected to play a vital role in culturally connecting African nations and linking them with the broader African Diaspora.
In other foreign affairs news, Meles Alem reported on Ethiopia's commitment to supporting peace and stability in Sudan. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Sudan's Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, recently discussed various issues of mutual interest.
Additionally, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed participated in the inaugural Saudi-Africa Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This event provided a platform for Ethiopia to strengthen its international relations and discuss cooperation opportunities with various African leaders and Saudi officials.
The Spokesperson also noted upcoming engagements with the international community, including a pre-investment visit by more than 20 notable French companies starting from November 21, 2023, aiming to explore various investment opportunities in Ethiopia.
