Ethiopia Embarks on $250 Million Bitcoin Mining and AI Data Center Project

ADDIS ABABA - Ethiopia has taken a significant step towards enhancing its technological landscape by initiating a $250 million project focused on bitcoin mining and artificial intelligence data center. This venture, led by BitCluster, is set to leverage the country's renewable energy resources, highlighting the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam as a primary power source.

According to Africa News Agency, the facility, which will be located in Addis Ababa, is expected to generate 120 MW of power, supporting over 34,000 miners and contributing 6.8 EH/s to the bitcoin network. The project underscores Ethiopia's transition towards renewable energy sources in its digital economy sectors. With this development, Ethiopia aims to position itself as a hub for global investment and talent, fostering innovation and promoting sustainable economic growth.
