Addis Ababa – Meskel Square in Addis Ababa was a hub of activity today as tens of thousands gathered for the 10-kilometre Great Ethiopian Run, Africa's largest road race.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the event, which started early in the morning, drew more than 45,000 participants from Ethiopia and around the world. Runners, including elite athletes, recreational runners, and walkers, filled the city's streets, buoyed by the cheers of thousands of spectators. This year's race is particularly notable as it celebrates the 23rd anniversary of the Great Ethiopian Run, an event founded in 2001 by Ethiopian athlete Haile Gebrselassie.

The race has become a global phenomenon since its inception, attracting international participants and serving as a significant economic contributor to Addis Ababa and Ethiopia. It is not just a race but also a celebration of Ethiopian culture and unity, fostering peace and community cohesion.

The Great Ethiopian Run symbolizes the unifying power of sport, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to achieve a common goal.
