Johannesburg Student Wins Provincial Water Innovation Prize

JOHANNESBURG - Yaseen Akhalwaya, a Grade 10 student at Greenside High School, clinched first place in the Gauteng provincial leg of the National South African Youth Water Prize (SAYWP) competition. His project, dubbed "Project Weatherman/HydroLogic," addresses innovative water resource management, earning him top honors in a field of competitors from fourteen local schools.

According to South African Government News Agency, Department coordinator for Water Support Service, the competition attracted entries under categories such as awareness, invention, and innovation. Yaseen's project received high praise for its insightful approach to water and sanitation issues, winning him a R6000 prize, a trophy, and a bursary for further education. He now looks forward to competing at the national level, where he aims to continue his success.
