Minister Chikunga Spearheads Multi-SETA Infrastructure Donation to Umlazi Special School

UMLAZI, KWAZULU-NATAL — Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga, responsible for Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, has announced a significant infrastructure donation valued at R6 million to Mason Lincoln Special School in Umlazi, aiming to enhance educational opportunities for over 400 learners.

According to South African Government News Agency, this initiative is a collaborative effort involving various Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs), including the Health and Welfare SETA, FoodBev Manufacturing SETA, Insurance SETA, Services SETA, and Mining Qualifications Authority. The donation, set to be formalized on Friday, encompasses mobile classrooms, desktop computers, assistive devices, digital boards, and wheelchairs, all tailored to support both teaching and learning needs at the special school.

In addition to infrastructure, the project will also provide skills development opportunities for persons and learners with disabilities, further supporting the school’s operational capabilities and educational outcomes. This initiative represents a holistic approach to enhancing educational access and quality for learners with special needs in the region.
