Namibia’s MoEAC Unveils New Integrated Physical Education and School Sports Policy in Windhoek

WINDHOEK — The Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture (MoEAC) introduced the Integrated Physical Education and School Sports Policy (IPESS) in Windhoek on Friday, aiming to infuse life skills into the educational system through physical education and sports.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Deputy Minister of MoEAC, the IPESS Policy extends beyond mere physical activity to serve as a visionary framework designed to integrate essential life skills into students’ learning experiences. “We hope to enhance our students' resilience by leveraging PE and school sports, providing them with the tools they need to excel both academically and personally,” she stated at the launch event. The policy outlines comprehensive goals, objectives, and implementation strategies, clearly defining the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders involved in its execution.

Emma Kantema-Gaomas, Deputy Minister of Sport, Youth, and National Services, also emphasized the vibrancy of Namibian sports and the significant potential of the IPESS program to engage the youth productively. “The IPESS policy will benefit both our work and the well-being of Namibia's youth. More significantly, it will demonstrate our dedication and interest in their physical and emotional wellbeing,” she remarked.

The policy is anticipated to not only boost educational outcomes and human development but also enhance employment opportunities and lessen socio-economic disparities in the long term. By uncovering hidden talents at the grassroots level, as seen in the cases of renowned athletes like Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi, IPESS is set to leave a lasting impact on Namibia’s youth and sports landscape.
