MIDRAND, South Africa — President Cyril Ramaphosa is scheduled to attend the final announcement of the 2024 National and Provincial Elections results this Sunday. The ceremony, organized by the Electoral Commission (IEC), will take place at the National Results Operations Centre (ROC) at Gallagher Estate, Midrand.
According to South African Government News Agency, the proceedings are set to begin at 05:20 PM. South Africans went to the polls on Wednesday, May 29, marking the seventh democratic National and Provincial Elections since the country achieved universal suffrage. The election period included special voting days on May 27 and 28 and voting abroad. This year's elections were notably the first to implement the Electoral Amendment Act of June 2023, allowing independent candidates to contest in the elections. President Ramaphosa is also expected to deliver a speech during the results ceremony. Additionally, the Electoral Commission plans to hold a media briefing at 8:30 PM to discuss the finalization of the election results and address any objections received.
