ROME - Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is participating in the Italy-Africa Summit, joining other African leaders in a conference hosted by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The summit focuses on the theme 'a bridge for a common growth'.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the summit, held over two days, will center around Italy's proposed 'Mattei Plan' for Africa. On Sunday, Meloni stated, "The objective is to present to African countries our vision of development for Africa, which is the basis of the Mattei Plan." This plan aims to establish a new strategic partnership with African nations, addressing the root causes of irregular migration and combating smuggling networks.
The summit's agenda spans a range of cooperation areas, including food security, culture, education, vocational training, energy security, economic and infrastructure development. Additionally, it will focus on collaborative efforts against human trafficking and terrorism. The Mattei Plan represents a significant step towards fostering closer ties between Italy and African countries, promoting mutual growth and addressing critical global challenges.
