PRETORIA — Amidst the recent deregistration of four Educor institutions, the Department of Higher Education and Training has affirmed the validity of qualifications issued or obtained during their respective registration periods and subsequent phase-out phases.

According to South African Government News Agency, the decision to cancel the registrations of City Varsity, Damelin, Icesa City Campus, and Lyceum College was made by Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Dr. Blade Nzimande, following the institutions' failure to demonstrate financial stability. Despite this, the Department and the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) have reassured students and stakeholders that qualifications from these colleges remain legitimate and recognized.

The announcement addresses concerns regarding the future of students currently enrolled at these institutions, emphasizing that all qualifications awarded during the designated periods will retain their legitimacy. Additionally, the colleges are obligated to facilitate the completion of ongoing courses and assessments, ensuring that students can attain their certifications as planned.

Minister Nzimande highlighted the careful consideration given to the potential consequences for students in the decision-making process, signifying the Department's commitment to safeguarding their educational achievements and prospects.
