Midrand - As the final preparations are underway at the Electoral Commission’s National Results Operations Centre in Midrand, South Africa is poised for the announcement of the 2024 National and Provincial Elections results. The much-anticipated results ceremony is scheduled to commence at 6 PM today, following the completion of vote capturing and validation late Saturday evening.
According to South African Government News Agency, this year's elections, held on Wednesday, May 29, involved millions of voters across the country visiting over 23,000 polling stations to participate in the seventh democratic elections. Notable attendees at the results announcement will include President Cyril Ramaphosa, who is slated to give an address, as well as government ministers such as Police Minister Bheki Cele and Minister in The Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni.
This electoral cycle saw significant participation from young voters, with 568,374 newly registered individuals, including 445,089 aged between 16 and 29 years. The total number of registered voters reached over 27 million, reflecting a robust engagement in the democratic process.
