South Africa Nears Consistent Electricity Supply with Energy Action Plan Implementation

PRETORIA — South Africa is moving closer to achieving consistent electricity supply, thanks to the effective implementation of the Energy Action Plan (EAP), according to Minister in The Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni. Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Ntshavheni highlighted that the country has not experienced load shedding for more than 130 days, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s efforts to stabilize its energy grid.

According to South African Government News Agency, the success is largely due to the diligent application of the EAP, which was introduced by President Cyril Ramaphosa in July 2022. The plan focuses on planned maintenance and the introduction of new generation capacity to secure energy supply. "The supply of consistent electricity is now a step closer due to the steadfast implementation of the EAP," Ntshavheni stated, emphasizing that this achievement is critical for economic growth and improving the quality of life for South Africans.

She also noted that Eskom, the state-owned power utility, recorded an unplanned capability loss factor (UCLF) of 8,321 MW by the end of July, indicating significant improvements in electricity generation at its power stations. Cabinet has congratulated Eskom on this milestone and urged citizens to continue energy-saving practices to help maintain the stability of the national grid.
