South Africa Set for 2024 National and Provincial Elections

PRETORIA - South Africa is prepared for the upcoming 2024 National and Provincial Elections, scheduled for Wednesday, 29 May, where voters will select the seventh administration's leadership. Sy Mamabolo, the Chief Electoral Officer of the Electoral Commission, confirmed readiness, highlighting the participation of 70 political parties and 11 independent candidates. The elections will involve over 14,903 candidates competing for 887 seats across both legislatures, supported by 27.79 million registered voters.

According to South African Government News Agency, out-of-country voting is organized for 17-19 May 2024 at 111 foreign missions, involving more than 78,000 South African citizens residing abroad. Domestically, voters will receive three different ballots to cast their votes for national and regional representatives. The Electoral Commission has ensured the preparedness of 23,303 permanent voting stations, with a significant number based in schools and places of worship. Final training stages are underway for approximately 202,500 voting officials, with additional staff appointed to assist in the counting process.
