Los Angeles – South African musician Tyla has achieved a significant milestone by winning her first Grammy Award for ‘Best African Performance’ at the 66th annual Grammy Awards, held at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday.
According to South African Government News Agency, the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Tyla’s Grammy win not only confirms her status as a global music superstar but also highlights her role as a proud ambassador of South African arts and culture. The Minister commended Tyla’s historic achievement, particularly noteworthy as it comes before the release of her full album. Kodwa encouraged her to continue inspiring others and raising the South African flag high.
The Grammy Awards ceremony saw notable South African representation. Trevor Noah, a South African comedian, hosted the event for the fourth time and was also nominated for ‘Best Comedy Album’. Additionally, South African acapella group Just 6 received a nomination in the ‘Best Arrangement, Instrumental or Acapella’ category. Another South African artist, Musa Keys, was nominated for ‘Best African Performance’ for his collaboration with Nigerian artist Davido.
