PARIS — Team South Africa demonstrated significant determination at the 2024 Paris Olympics, actively competing in various sports on Saturday and increasing their medal tally. Javelin thrower Jo-Ane van Dyk notably secured the team's sixth medal with a throw of 63.93 meters.
According to South African Government News Agency, the team engaged in finals across multiple disciplines at the Stade de France. High jumper Brian Raats and the men’s 4x400m relay team were among those who competed on the final night. In the marathon event, Elroy Galant and Stephen Mokoka showcased strong performances on the challenging Paris terrain. Galant finished 11th with a time of 2 hours 9 minutes and 7 seconds, while Mokoka placed 27th, just under 2 hours and 11 minutes.
Other notable performances included canoeist Hamish Lovemore, who won his 1000m B-Final, ranking him ninth overall, and wrestler Nicholas de Lange and golfers Ashleigh Buhai and Paula Reto also concluded their events. The current medal leaders are China with 38 golds, followed by the United States with 37, Australia with 18, Japan with 17, and France with 15. Team South Africa ranks 40th with one gold, three silvers, and two bronzes.
