Voter Turnout Reaches 58.57% in South Africa’s 2024 National Elections

JOHANNESBURG — As the 2024 National and Provincial Elections in South Africa near completion, the Electoral Commission reports a voter turnout of 58.57%. With 98.42% of votes accounted for, this year's participation shows a slight decline compared to the 66.05% turnout in the 2019 elections.

According to South African Government News Agency, as of 10:52 am on Saturday, Gauteng leads with the highest regional turnout at 63.72%. This high engagement is followed closely by the Northern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, with turnouts of 62.49% and 61.81%, respectively. The Western Cape, Free State, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape, Limpopo, and North West also reported varied voter participation rates. The results dashboard continues to update as final votes are captured and validated, reflecting the robust participation of South Africans in the seventh democratic elections held last Wednesday.
