Wanchi-Dandi Ecotourism Village Hailed as a Top Model Project in Africa

ADDIS ABABA – The recently inaugurated Wanchi-Dandi Ecotourism Village has been recognized as a potential leading model for ecotourism in Africa. This accolade comes from Professor Alemayehu G. Mariam, a respected political science professor at California State University. He praised the project for beautifully integrating the natural scenery of the area with the culture and lifestyle of the local community.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the village's inauguration, which took place on Saturday, saw the attendance of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and other high-ranking government officials. After his visit, Professor Alemayehu expressed profound admiration for the natural beauty surrounding the village and the scenic views of the lake. According to Professor Alemayehu, the Wanchi-Dandi Ecotourism Village stands out as a premier model in Africa due to its blend of natural landscapes and cultural authenticity.

He highlighted the significance of such destinations for Ethiopians in the diaspora, suggesting that visits to these locations could foster a sense of patriotism and encourage advocacy for the nation. The professor emphasized the importance of showcasing Ethiopia's unique features to the global community. Such efforts, he noted, are crucial for supporting the nation's ongoing development and prosperity.

Professor Alemayehu also mentioned his visits to other tourist destinations in Ethiopia, such as Chebera Churchura and Gorgora, praising their exceptional beauty. He lauded the Wanchi-Dandi project as a concrete demonstration of Ethiopia's success in ecotourism, a sector vital for the national economy.

The Wanchi-Dandi Ecotourism Village is part of the larger "Dine for Nation" initiative, launched by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in 2021. This national project aims to develop world-class tourist sites across different regions of Ethiopia, enhancing the country's appeal as a tourist destination.
